General ‘Get Out of Actinic Hell’ Tips

Here are a few things to try when you’ve torn out all your hair and your head is bleeding profusely because you’ve been banging it so hard on the desk. In case you hadn’t realised you are in Actinic Hell. These tips may help you to regain your sanity. These suggestions are general in nature and have been known to work in a variety of different situations.

  1. Compact The Databases. To do this go to Housekeeping  >> Compact Databases, tick both boxes and press OK. Actinic will close and compact the databases. When the dialog box pops up to tell you that the compacting is complete, re-open the Actinic software and Update / Publish to Web.
  2. Have You Tried Turning it Off and On Again? OK this may sound silly but it has been known to work. Firstly try closing and restarting your Actinic software (remember to create a snapshot when closing down). Your second option is to try closing the Actinic software, reboot your computer and re-open Actinic.
  3. Refresh Your Website. To do a website refresh in Actinic go to Help >> Troubleshooting >> Web Site Purge and Refresh, tick all three boxes and then click ‘Delete and Refresh’. You can also refresh the site by going to Web >> Refresh Website, but this won’t allow you to select which types of files to refresh. The main point to remember with either option is to tick the box to exclude any unchanged image files – ticking this will speed things up considerably.
  4. Increase Script ID. Go to Web >> Network Setup, locate the CGI Script ID Number in the bottom left of the screen and increase the number in the box (so if it says 1 change it to 2). You then need to click Apply and OK (if Apply is greyed out then click into another box, delete a character and retype it – this should make the Apply button clickable). Then go to Help >> Troubleshooting >> Web Site Purge and Refresh, tick all three boxes and then click ‘Delete and Refresh’.

If you’ve tried all of the above but they have not solved the problem you are experiencing you will need to find a solution that is specific to your issue. If you can’t find any mention of the problem you are having on this website please email me with the details and I will try to help.
