These services can be used to check if an order is fraudulent. This is extra information in addition to that which comes from the payment provider. If someone has stolen or cloned a card and can get through the 3d secure process, their payment can still be authorised so long as they enter the correct billing address. These checks are particularly useful for orders that are being sent to an address that is different to the billing address.

as well as checking the IP address of the computer the order was placed from – this is shown in the Magento admin on the order details. You can then enter the IP address into a website such as http://ip-lookup.net/ – this will allow you to see if the country of the IP address matches that of the purchaser. A different country does not necessarily mean fraud but could be a useful indicator if something else about the order seems suspicious.
