OK, so you’ve made some changes to your site within the Actinic software, you’ve pressed ‘Publish to Web’ (V9) or ‘Update Website’ (V8), but the changes are not showing up on your website and you’re wondering why.
Here are a few possible causes together with suggested solutions.
- You might be looking at a cached version of the page in your browser. Try refreshing the page – press the F5 button on your keyboard (or Ctrl + F5) to reload the page. If the changes still don’t appear it’s most likely that Actinic has not uploaded the changes properly, in which case move to step 2.
- Have a look at the changes you made in the Page Preview window within Actinic. If you can see the changes there but not on your actual website it may be that the Actinic software has not uploaded the amended files. First of all try Compacting the Databases. To do this go to Housekeeping >> Compact Databases, tick both boxes and press OK. Actinic will close and compact the databases. When the dialog box pops up to tell you that the compacting is complete, re-open the Actinic software and Update / Publish to Web. If that still hasn’t solved the problem you may need to do a site refresh.
- Website Refresh. An Actinic website refresh may take a long time, depending on the size of your store, and should only be done if absolutely necessary. Before you embark on a refresh it’s a good idea to totally rule out the ‘cached page’ possibility mentioned in step 1. To do this you may need to ask someone else to view the website on a different PC to find out if they can see the changes you made. If they can then you have a ‘browser cache’ issue and not an Actinic upload issue, in which case you don’t need to do anything more within Actinic, you just need to learn about page caching. If you’ve already asked someone else or you’ve looked at your site on a different PC and you can’t see the changes there either, then a website Refresh might be the best option. To do a website refresh in Actinic go to Help >> Troubleshooting >> Web Site Purge and Refresh, tick all three boxes and then click ‘Delete and Refresh’. You can also refresh the site by going to Web >> Refresh Website, but this won’t allow you to select which types of files to refresh. The main point to remember with either option is to tick the box to exclude any unchanged image files – ticking this will speed things up considerably.
- If you are still having problems after all that it’s probably time to call your webmaster and/or send them a copy of your latest snapshot so they can investigate for you.
